Prof. H.A.Nagarajaram
(Head of Department of Systems and Computational Biology)
F-50, Laboratory of Computational Biology
School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad (P.O. Central University)
Prof. Nagarajaram obtained his PhD in 1995 under the mentorship of Prof. C.Ramakrishnan, Molecular Biophysics Unit (MBU), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. Soon after PhD he joined Prof. Sir Tom Blundell’s group at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge, England, and carried out his post-doctoral work from 1996 to 2000. In 2000 he returned to India and joined CDFD as Staff Scientist and established the Laboratory of Computational Biology (LCB). At CDFD he was also holding an additional responsibility of heading its Bioinformatics Facility and served as the India Node Manager of EMBnet as well as the elected member of the Executive Committee of theM ASEA-PACIFIC Bioinformatics Network (APBioNet). In Feb, 2017, he accepted the Professor position in the School of Life Sciences (SLS), University of Hyderabad (UoH) and moved LCB to the SLS premises. Since the last quarter of 2018 he has been made the first Head of the newly formed Department of Systems and Computational Biology (DoSCB) as well as the Professor-in-Charge of Centre for Modelling, Simulation and Design (CMSD) . |
His research mainly focuses general and fundamental features and design principles of structures and interactions of human proteins and their disease variants. His group works in the following research areas :-
Computational Systems Biology:
|
Disease Informatics
|
Protein structure prediction and modelling
|
Prokaryotic Genome Analysis
|
He has so far mentored eight students for their PhDs who are currently working as postdocs/independent researchers in
some of the very prestigious institutes in India, US and UK.
He is currently mentoring six students for their PhD doctoral work. In addition he has also guided about 30 Masters/B.Tech. students for their project works.
He has published more than 70 papers in the international high-impact, peer-reviewed journals such as Human Mutation, Journal of Proteome Research, Bioinformatics, Nucleic Acids Research, Journal of Molecular Biology, PNAS, Protein Science, Protein Engineering etc.
He has been teaching courses in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computational Systems biology, Mathematics and statistics. He has been serving as a member of Board of studies in some central and state universities.
